The Sovereign Forest and Lightning Testimonies are the two projects that are exhibited at the Museo Thyssen BorneMisza of this artist and Indian filmmaker. Its main objective is the denunciation of the weaker of his country populations. His works reflect conflicts for power, violence, human rights and ecology.
This exhibition is curated by Chus Martínez and both projects were produced by TBA21 (Foundation of Francesca Thyssen-Bornemisza) in collaboration with the Museum.
The Sovereign Forest shows the struggle between local communities and companies for control of the land and the displacement of indigenous people resulting from this. Films, documents, books and photographs on the social problems of Odisha, a State in the eastern part of the India. In this project collaborated Sudhir Pattnaik, journalist and social activist, and with the Director of documentaries Sherna Dastur.
Lightning Testimonies are mainly sexual violence against women through their testimonies, relating these experiences with everyday objects. A truly touching multi-channel video installation and that leaves no one indifferent. The artist seeks social justice and shows hatred and humiliation of 60 years of political and social conflicts.
